PuppetA duet between a woman and her dress, locked in a cyclical sequenece of movements. One leads the other follows, the dress at once restricting the next moment comforting. Puppet looks at the relationship between dress to a performer, dress to audience and audience to performer. It is not equal however as the audience is not itself manipulated, and always in control. The performance was exceptional, intimacy of the space fantastic, the dress, as always behaved unpredictably - although the string snapping (due to the wrong thickness of fishing wire) did add an interesting tension - and a certain feeling of danger, which I liked. A success on many levels but as always much to improve for the future. Kirstie Saturday, July 21, 2007
New SpaceBeginning to look at the EMOTONAL relationship between the self to dress. The dress taking on outward characteristcs from the inner pyche. An angry dress, a crying dress, a dress that sleeps, that dreams and even falls in love. The two Mal Gusto dresses are finished - the most challenging I've ever made. Bringin in new elements to the dissolving - embroidery and pattern. KirstieWednesday, March 7, 2007
Water / DanceCostumes: My initial thoughts / ideas (please tell me if your not happy with them). Undergarment - leotard / catsuit etc.... charcoal grey / black / white? Over dress - in transparent voile type fabric - see through / 'watery' / feminine / fluid and soft. I think an asymmetric dress would extentuate your dancing / movement by following your body and would appear more 'watery'. The length could be as long or short as you like? Having the long end trailing on the floor would give a very fluid image - it could be made so it wouldn't getin the way of your movement. I know you want the costumes very simple, but think it would look visually stunning if the dress was very neautral - white / cream? but with a small detail of colour:
As for the secret water pouch - have been thinking long and hard about how to incorporate it into the dress....... Unless the skirt has a sculpted / full skirt (which i don't think you want?) it will be very hard to fit it into a dress that is so fragile and delicate..... the only solution would be to attach it to you body - maybe upper leg? If your keen for it, then I suggest we rethink the skirt - making it fuller, so we can easily hide it. Kirstie |
